Ground Rules

In order to create a positive environment for everyone attending Arcadia, please observe the following ground rules.

General Policies and Guidelines

Parking

Parking is limited and is mainly to the sides of the dirt road coming in to the campsites.  Extra large and extra wide vehicles are discouraged.  Should we need extra parking an overflow site is available nearby.

Cell phone and computer policy

Consider unplugging for the weekend! Connect with nature, spirituality, and other people at the gathering!  Focus on the here and now!  Take a break from your regular contacts and obligations!  Frequent texting and phone calls can distract from the atmosphere of the gathering!

If you absolutely must stay connected, please keep your devices on silent or vibrate and take or make any calls or texts you need to away from the main campsites, workshops, rituals, and other group activities.

There will be one designated staff cell phone that will remain on (but silent) throughout the day so incoming guests can call to locate us. The staff cell phone will also be on in case of emergency.

WiFi is available in the park, but not consistent throughout the campground.  The best service is near the main house and community room.

Electricity is limited to certain spaces.   You may charge your cell phones and other devices in the community room.

Photography

Photography will be allowed during the event and a staff photographer may be taking pictures for promoting future events. If you wish to take photos, please ensure that those persons in the photos do not mind being photographed. As with the cell phone and computer policy, please keep photography during the gathering as unobtrusive as possible.  Arcadia Sanctuary also reserves the right to use photographs taken at Arcadia for use in future promotion with the permission of any identifiable people in those photos.

Weapons / Bladed Ritual Tools

Bladed ritual tools, swords, daggers, athames, pocket knives, etc will be allowed. However, if they become an issue, we may ask you to put them away.  These items should not be concealed.  Guns are not allowed at Arcadia Sanctuary.  Anyone seen with a gun will be asked to leave.

Alcohol and Drugs

You may bring or partake of alcohol so long as you are over the age of 21, and so long as you do not get out of hand. Individuals who become a problem will be asked to leave the gathering and will not be issued a refund.

Illegal drugs are not allowed at the Gathering.

Nudity / Ritual Garb

Our event this year is at a private clothing-optional campground.  Feel free to go skyclad or to wear your favorite ritual garb.  Please no nudity anywhere near the entrance or main road where you would be visible to the general public.  Any overt expressions of sexuality should take place in the privacy of one's tent.

Stolen / Lost Items

We are not responsible for lost or stolen items.  We recommend that you keep any valuables, wallets, cash, etc. on your person or locked out of sight in your vehicle.

Minors

This event is open to men over the age of 18. No one under the age of 18 will be permitted.

Work Shifts

All attendees are required to sign-up for one or more work shifts / tasks throughout the weekend. Primary work shifts may involve helping to cook, cleaning up, getting firewood, tending the fire, announcing workshops.  Leading a workshop or serving on a panel discussion counts as one work shift.  We will have a work shift sign up sheet when you check-in to the gathering.  If you wish to lead a workshop or serve on a panel, this should be arranged before the gathering.  For more information, see the "Workshop Descriptions" and "Workshop Proposals" items in the "Arcadia Gathering Menu" to the right of this page.

Quiet Hours

Amherst County quiet hours are from 11pm to 7am and those hours are respected by Arcadia Sanctuary.  There should be no excessive noise after 11pm or before 7am.  Drum circles and other loud activities should stop by 11pm.

Open Fires

The campground is in a forested area.  There is an abundance of dry leaves, wood piles, and other things that could easily catch fire.  Please don't be the one to start a forest fire.  Fires will be permitted in the designated vessels provided, unless there is a county burn ban in effect.  If there is a burn ban, no fires will be permitted.  If you smoke please discard your butts responsibly.  As Smokey says, "Only you can prevent forest fires."

Pets

No pets will be allowed at the Gathering.  No exceptions.  Attendees should be aware that there are animals who live at the Arcadia Sanctuary.  These include dogs, cats, ducks, and other animals.  Any abuse of said animals will result in the attendee being asked to leave.

Park Rules and Laws

Campground rules and state laws supersede any policies we have for the gathering.

Woodland Safety

Arcadia Sanctuary is in a forested area which may contain hazards not encountered at public campgrounds.  Everyone attending should be aware of these hazards and will be required to sign a waiver form before attending the Gathering.

Below are some guidelines to help you navigate the wild forests of Arcadia:
